A Loving Sisterhood

isn't it amazing

how love can transcend

throughout time and space

and going without end

the depth of our caring

for our sisters and friends

whom we've never met

has a message to send

we're brought here by Him

to love and understand

on a Heavenly level

for the battles we stand

others cannot see

why we all belong

but we know that bond

that binds us so strong

He shares His special love

with those of us on trial

that reaches to our soul

and helps us to smile

so grateful to be part of

this loving sisterhood

filled with true angels

full of love and so good

A Loving Sisterhood

BODY ASSAULT

Body Assault

what was supposed to be

a calming time for my rest

was truly anything but that

maybe I'd had too much stress

after my wild and crazy day

I was ready for a good sleep

but He said it was lesson time

and the tortures made me weep

guess I wasn't supposed to feel

weepy depressed or blue

so He showed me how lucky I was

and what I needed to do

leg aches and throbbing feet

and a rapidly racing heart

a stuffy nose and sinus pains

out of nowhere appeared to start

plus an aching rotator cuff

sharp stomach pains added in

no way would I be sleeping

seems I just couldn't win

up and down through the night

I tried popping several pills

in hopes of getting some sleep

but nothing would cure my ills

so I tried reading a new book

got through the twenty-first page

but it seems nothing worked

in the war my body waged

I got the message loud and clear

I certainly won't complain so much

just be grateful I'm not in pain

a lesson given with His touch

I'd really like some sleeping time

before the daily battle begins

hoping my body will stop fighting

for a few winks so I can win

Lesson: Don't complain about minor

stuff, cause it could always be worse!

Unwinding...

in the peace of the night

letting emotions flow free

releasing any worries

allowing me to be me

just breathing in and out

eliminating all my stress

unwinding my tired mind

it's time for some rest

calming thoughts prevail

overcoming my sadness

focusing on my blessings

reaching for some gladness

stopping a minute to think

grateful for all of the grace

that always surrounds me

and helps me find my place

dear friends uplift my spirits

when they start sagging low

incredible angels of love

I am so grateful to know

relaxed since things are quiet

now all my worries will cease

I look forward to sweet dreams

as I am finally at peace

Reflections of This Year

coming to the end of the year

as I look in the rear view mirror

it's time for some inspection

and then for true reflection

were my goals achieved

were my dreams believed

do I still know who I am

can I dress up to feel glam

what is my future's passion

will I have a change in fashion

can I love my family more

will I find someone to adore

health was still a concern

I did even more to learn

like reading books in bunches

I even had fun lunches

my love is to travel afar

reunions and following stars

donating to help St. Jude's

I do have a better attitude

all in all it's been a success

writing and painting to bless

others I've met along the way

I've found new paths to pray

Reflections of This Year

The Golden Years

after a lifetime of living

memories will fill up a life

will those Golden Years be

full of love or full of strife

trying to remain very sharp

while aging takes its toll

hoping to feel up to the task

it's not always in our control

still hoping for a pleasant life

living with passion and zeal

in spite of our physical decline

shortcomings we try to conceal

to enjoy such simple things

beauty in a sunrise or sunset

sweet kisses from grand kids

or challenges that may beset

a clear slate every new day

grateful for daily well being

making the most of our time

for the life that we are seeing

life may not be what we hoped

but our choice is to be our best

when the Golden Years come

we'll enjoy life and get our rest

The Golden Years

The Rain Showers

the rain showers came today

and mixed with the tears flowing

many others had hurt her before

now her heart had stopped growing

she tried to hide the pain inside

she's good at masking her face

shoving her emotions down deep

not letting out even a trace

for all the challenges she's faced

she continues to keep her smile

in spite of obstacles overcome

she stays grateful during her trials

the fresh smell after all the rain

clears out the air and feels clean

hoping for a brighter tomorrow

to find all the love she can glean

Dare to Complain

if we should dare to complain

or see our body in disdain

He will help to change our mind

often it's some dramatic rewind

it happened two times you see

cause I was not caring for me

run ragged as a mom and wife

twice I ended up under a knife

but my attitude truly changed

after my body was rearranged

disfigured but I was still alive

given miracles I hoped to thrive

when death becomes an option

you focus on life with caution

praying for one more tomorrow

it helps to get over your sorrow

the lesson is learned with hope

and not to criticize but to cope

to love the body we are given

no whining and stay more driven

to have a better life give back

share love and stay on the track

to appreciate your body and mind

and make an effort to be more kind

Taking A Break

when life gets too much

it's time to take a break

to breathe once again

and to go visit a lake

to watch the sun rise

and marvel at its sight

awesome color streams

bringing such delight

breathe in the salt air

as the waves hit shore

brilliant blue green foam

coming in once more

the gulls flying up above

swoop and dive to the sea

gathering a catch of fish

then soaring up to be free

blow troubles out to sea

now rid your soul of tears

cleansed and fresh again

real joy shedding your fears

take the time to recharge

every once in awhile

get in touch with your soul

to refresh your sweet smile

Taking A Break

Life Is Fragile

life is a fragile thing

our heart aches and we cry

when a loved one is called

still we wonder why

though we may not ever

understand it all

we find some kind of peace

until it is our call

open your eyes wide

and see God's true light

in the face of your loved ones

it gives you your might

we can't solve world problems

as our time here is short

but our traits honor our life

by valor kindness or sport

a life that's well lived

as we leave our own mark

with love charity and faith

brings light from the dark

honor His great plan

follow the path He gives us

find solace in the skies

and hold true to His trust

Life Is Fragile

Abandonment...

life changes from being abandoned...

some babies are abandoned at birth

other children are abandoned

when a parent splits

children can get abandoned

by their friends

a boyfriend may abandon

his girlfriend and vice versa

too often a husband or wife gets

abandoned by a spouse

folks will abandon a pet

when it's too costly

some will abandon their house

when they foreclose

others may abandon

their car

all these events pale in comparison

to the biggest abandonment of all

the most painful abandonment

was Jesus on the cross...

stop for a minute

see where you are

take a deep breath

then reach for a star

see who's in need

find one simple way

to share with them

a new way to pray

it's the human touch

and it's all right there

in one tiny moment

it shows that you care

the connection is real

and changes the day

by helping one other

it gets rid of the gray

and brings blue skies

full of joy and hope

encouraging others

to be able to cope

just open your heart

and share with a friend

make this day count

for blessings on end

Down on Your Knees

when life gets too much

there's no other choice

get down on your knees

and find your own voice

trust in His wise counsel

just let go and let Him

deal with your troubles

follow His lead to win

listening to the old adage

ours is not to question why

but we must learn to allow

His help from high in the sky

sometimes it's hard to cope

being pulled from all sides

which way do you choose

when indecision resides

let your knees get a work out

those hands folded in prayer

until you get your answers

stay focused and aware

it's the way and the light

that will truly guide you

be sure to follow His lead

for you to make it through

sitting silently in the darkness

bathed only by the moonlight's glow

listening to the nighttime chorus

breathing in life as it easily flows

a real cleansing calmness and peace

given to all of God's little creatures

in the enveloping darkness we see

beautiful light of the moon's features

just a moment in time to reflect

to dream about life and what it all means

be grateful for friends and all the respect

you bring to your life and all that it gleans

so simple so easy a pace in God's time

no rushing or fretting just time to unwind

let the warm breeze and your gentle mind

take you to a tropical isle so fine

reflect on today and all that it holds

for the connections you make this day

value your efforts to face life as gold

is treasured and honored each way

His miracles appear for our seeing

to help all of us heal and feel alive

find joy in the simple act of being

just breathe slowly to truly thrive

during this holiest time

He leaves us great clues

open your eyes wider

to find out what is true

miracles are all around

so we need to be aware

messages from Above

show us that He cares

from the ocean's floor

to nature's drop of dew

such awe inspiring works

mystery surrounds it all

His miracles are plenty

but only those who believe

are given access to any

when a cross appears

it warrants our attention

Breaking Away

breaking away is never easy

everyone has a time and a place

when they leave the parental nest

and cope with challenges they face

parents want to protect their kids

and often keep them frozen in time

hard for them to let go and release

especially when kids fight and whine

when limitations cloud the picture

as for those in truly special cases

it's harder to reach that balance

of independence and social graces

we all need to grow up and have a life

with limits we must make our mistakes

to learn how to deal and cope with them

to equip us to survive our fate

but we are all God's special children

and He wants each of us to survive

He is really holding onto our hand

along our grown up path to thrive

find a simple way to ease the break

take the baby steps that are needed

know your parent's love will endure

by staying true as the rules are heeded

Another Christmas with Courage

for so very many years now

a milestone has been celebrating

the special Christmas holiday

by still being able to be here

with such real courage and faith

while still fighting the awful beast

another Christmas has now come

you'll again rejoice with your family

no huge fanfares are needed

the amazing fact that you're alive

is the special reward we receive

which means everything to us

it's such a vastly different world

for those affected by cancer

milestones are marked off

whenever they can be noted

we often hold our breath daily

just waiting for the next sign

that cancer is not retreating

but still playing it's sad game

but no time for tears right now

to honor His very special birth

and enjoying time with our family

Angel's Glory

her trials were finally through

all of her pain had gone away

now it was time to celebrate

as she reached her Glory today

such excitement in the skies

the newest angel was coming

with anticipation and great joy

the angels were all humming

all the angels gathered round

to welcome her with open arms

for she was truly celebrated

because of her sweet charms

though many tears will be shed

she's reached the highest Glory

so instead of sadness and gloom

we celebrate her story

whether memories of Christmas

bring big smiles or salty tears

it affects everyone in some way

throughout life and over the years

the simple joys as a mere child

remembered each year as we dealt

with presents we did or didn't receive

and feelings about how we felt

everyone has their own memories

encouraged by their loving parents

cherishing it before day is done

as a mother and a grandmother

the tears so easily start to fall

watching those sentimental movies

seeing kindnesses from the small

when the news comes

most are in real shock

the special club we're in

hoping to keep each one

like the last burning embers

we figure how to fight

whatever the cost

to hold onto our life

before we are lost

taking each step to grow

just battling to survive

Searching for the Pink

looking to find the pink in the sky

is like searching for a silver lining

it's a sign of good things to come

and without the usual whining

instead of the half empty cup

I prefer looking for it to be full

it's reassuring to know this fact

cause His messages are so cool

but it's very easy to miss it all

so remember to always look

up high in the big bright sky

for some very special little hook

when you're grateful for blessings

and you stay aware of this great gift

you'll find the precious pink clouds

without enduring any of the rift

in the mind's eye

to see wonders of God

just passing by

to be soothed by music

sweetly in our ear

calming and moving

so gently to hear

the beauty of it all

we're transported to

this amazing place

such a healing release

blesses our night

and helps us to dream

for our sheer delight

forgetting our woes

trusting is very hard

when you're facing this

the friends you know

they are the voices

of hope to help you go

through the tests and all

your friends will hold you

when you're down so low

they won't let you be blue

for each step ahead

will support and hold you

so you'll be able to cope

A Message to Mom

you gave me my life

you watched over me

you did your very best

and I'm thankful you see

I want you to know

just how special you are

as a friend and a mom

you're a shining star

thinking back now of

memories over the years

bringing back laughs

and also some tears

really appreciating you

was not nearly enough

not until I was a mom

and found out how tough

some times could get

by trials you went through

and just gritting your teeth

while I explored just who

I really wanted to become

but in the final story

it's you I need to thank

for the love and the glory

Halloween Is Here!

anticipation is running high

costumes ready witches fly

the excitement is now brewing

and no one is still stewing

tots to teens and in between

a Jolly Green Giant all in green

see the witches and funny clowns

with little ghosts running around

each getting ready for this night

and hoping that it will stay light

the goody bags are all ready

even wee ones who aren't steady

painting faces and dressing

the ritual act is the guessing

who is that cute little cat

and who is dressed as a bat

yeah Halloween is finally here

all the kids shout and cheer

knowing Halloween is dandy

they'll march off with their candy

precious and few are moments

that touch us throughout life

the special people who walk in

the magical ones who stay

life is full of such mystery

never knowing where the day

will take you when you start

but fulfilling by the day's end

each breath and heartbeat

connect us to one another

it's a big part of being human

to face all adversity head on

to fight against the evil foes

to celebrate all the victories

from a baby's first movements

to someone battling cancer

when the truth is hard to take

like losing someone so young

to the evil claws of cancer

before her life has even begun

but He always has an answer

if we only stop a moment to see

He wants us to follow to be free

I did just that this evening while

out taking the dog for a walk

looking up I was amazed again

now I understand when He talks

the angels were celebrating

and welcoming their newest one

Lauren was there hugging her

as Jolene's life here was done

it's hard to believe that it's real

but the camera does not lie

this is the sky that I saw tonight

as I was just walking on by

when you are hugged

by your angels

it's the warmth

at special moments

when you just know

you are blessed

often it's at a time

when you are stressed

as faith is tested

and tensions release

the weight on shoulders

is lifted effortlessly

burdens lightened

almost magically

have you felt the hugs

did you understand

what really took place

did you feel the grace

angels are among us

guiding and watching

to help us through

our trials and sorrows

the warriors keep coming

fighting with all their might

against the villainous foe

throughout day and night

they all touch the lives

of so many in their quest

to live life on their terms

as they really try their best

no one can answer why

or when we wonder how

we are all chosen for this

special club we're in now

the technology is out there

and we do hope they'll find

the cure everyone wants

before we all lose our mind

but the awful pain still stings

whenever another one is lost

after so valiantly fighting

it's hard to add up the cost

our prayers go out to family

and while all the angels sing

we send love and memories

for the new angel with wings

I keep wondering

how many really see

His marvelous messages

meant for you and me

with a stroke of His hand

He can choose to change

the image before us so

we no longer feel strange

a simple thing it's true

when we're down and blue

is to look up at the sky

to know what to do

The Chains

the chains that weigh me down

seem to get heavier each day

my responsibilities are immense

still hopeful as I continue to pray

that I can muddle through it all

with some real sense of sanity

while contributing my own share

of loving kindness and humanity

we all carry life's heavy burdens

in their various shapes and sizes

jobs kids parents and the stress

too often there are no prizes

I do have a hard enough time

only trying to take care of me

and to keep me flying right as

the older I get time just flees

I don't have any great answers

for this path I'm traversing now

every part has consequences

but solutions are hidden somehow

I'm very grateful for my blessings

and there are too many to list

so I'll keep on plugging away

as life takes its turns and twists

The Chains

Totally in Awe...

it's hard to put into words

what I felt and I saw

during my Western trip

when I was totally in awe

such beautiful sights

all created by His hand

everywhere that I glanced

each one was more grand

lots of miles in the car

seemed to just pass by

traveling to new places

watching clouds truly fly

castles sand and the sea

mountains lakes and streams

each vastly different terrains

they all seemed like a dream

seeing the national parks

and a castle way up on a hill

watching the surfers surf

all gave me quite a thrill

gatherings with some family

and parties with my friends

having fun in Las Vegas

I didn't want it ever to end

Totally in Awe...

Daily Adjustments

in life you can give or take

or just stew and quake

over all the daily trials

or instead put on smiles

life is what you make it

does it overwhelm or fit

only you can decide

to then take it in stride

or just swallow it whole

when you miss your goal

make each day a blessing

and quit all the guessing

keep hope in your heart

and you won't come apart

if you continue to believe

just stay ready to receive

as I dream in color

of what life could be

under my cozy covers

I start to feel free

I try to remember

there are many voices

lots of paths to follow

and dozens of choices

with this on my mind

I always ask Him each day

how do I make a difference

as I begin to pray

my goal is to bring peace

for those facing real life

with heavy burdens galore

that cut like a knife

life can overwhelm

but can be an easy fix

using real faith and love

overcoming those licks

to help lighten a load

even with a small smile

letting them just know

they are so worthwhile

the wonders of the sea

are still so amazing to me

sparkling in the noon sun

waves and ripples are one

beckoning to one and alll

the sea never seems small

with waves coming ashore

erasing the path before

a magical mystical wonder

filled with secrets down under

perfect for an afternoon of fun

under the brightest sun

the tears hide just inside my heart

as the sadness becomes real

so overwhelmed with life as it is

just trying to push back what I feel

I need the sunshine to come out

and shine down on my very soul

to help me get beyond this fate

and start to make me feel whole

a special day for sure

bright blue skies so pure

angels were all around

without making a sound

if you felt that angel tug

it probably was just a hug

such a beautiful day to fly

swirling high up in the sky

every time I would look

and with every pic I took

it gave a sense of peace

making all worries cease

treasure their gift of love

like a beautiful white dove

we may not see their face

but we can feel their grace

through a very small window

way up high in the blue sky

a tiny little rainbow appeared

as if just for my own eyes

a message sent from Him

from so high up above

saying things will be all right

and filled with His love

I just happened to see it

this amazing rainbow sight

when checking out my yard

seeing if things were all right

miracles happen each day

some we never know about

others we are blessed with

but for this I wanted to shout

to see such an incredible treat

sharing the awesome power

from the depth of His talent

bringing us this light shower

so privileged to see this view

that most would have missed

for this special rainbow was

love created and sun kissed

when life gets you down

you don't have to frown

instead take heart to stay

upbeat and continue to pray

be grateful for all you're given

and just keep on livin'

and the peace that it brings

to get rid of all the stress

a blessed life is a present

so make your life be pleasant

I'm calling all angels

to bring hope and good cheer

for someone who is hurting

and whose heart is so dear

you're one of His special people

who may be feeling all the fear

from your cancer diagnosis

that is so scary to hear

now is the time for the angels

to enfold you in their arms

and give you the strength to fight

and to keep you from harm

find your own path to peace

hold onto hope and still believe

that this journey you're taking

will give you grace to receive

all the healing inside and out

that you so desperately need

to battle all these phases

and to help you to succeed

the sentence may seem harsh

but you're stronger than you know

you can win this enormous war

with faith and love as you grow

A Bright Spot...

how do we start our day

rushing or with a smile

moving at our own pace

or bumper to bumper while

we fume and shout out

at drivers going slow

rushing to get to work

angry or feeling low

our moods and stress

cause harm to us inside

we must find a better way

to get a thicker hide

doesn't this get old

this pattern every day

how do we find the joy

for little things this way

with a quick glance up

in the mirror I do see

the little bright spot

bringing great joy to me

the bright orange globe

shining golden as it rises

such a perfect miracle

another of God's surprises

how blessed I am feeling

after this vision so grand

the gloominess was changed

when He reached out His hand

Living with Hope

how do we hold on

when all things seem

totally impossible

what does it all mean

we look for the rays

of hope every day

when fighting and

learning how to pray

we have helped others

without any regard

for our own plight

yet we stay on guard

no matter how badly

we are hurting or feel

we give our best support

or will make an appeal

to keep fighting each foe

when others want to quit

always making a difference

as our caring is legit

it's our turn to hold on

and battle head-to-head

defeating our demons

without any dread

we pray with our hope

that this too shall pass

the terrors will leave

we'll find greener grass

don't get feeling too down

just don't ever give in

and smiling always helps

cause we know we will win

Value the Breath of Life

when He blesses each of us

with a gift beyond measure

that very first breath of life

is truly ours to treasure

we grow and need to value

the gift of life we are given

taken for granted it's a shame

stead of tieing it with a ribbon

how often in one's long life

do they struggle for a breath

from pneumonia or asthma

one can learn of the depth

we want to catch our breath

after running a long race

working hard to just breathe

can put fear on our face

when a person is drowning

they will fight just to breathe

but if they clog up their lungs

it's hard not to grieve

a breath is an amazing thing

when lungs work while pure

so take care of those lungs

to continue living for sure

Dedicated to those who may

struggle to breathe--I know

firsthand from asthma and

pneumonia. We don't always

appreciate it till it's too late.

Watching Over Us

through the tall window

and shining so bright

the giant circle moon

is fully blazing its light

assuring all to know

she is watching over

keeping things safe

like crimson and clover

the round full moon

from far away miles

such a magical sight

brings us big smiles

tides and the weather

tales of magical might

this mystical orb

simply says good night

Waking with a Miracle

if you can listen very closely

you can hear the angels sing

or feel the hint of a breeze

when angels earn their wings

in this season of miracles

huge requests are often heard

how many can be realized

everyone is what I'm assured

such pain and aching is felt

when hurt is in the heart

but waking with a miracle

gives you a brand new start

walk with faith that it will

come to help you get along

past the next hurdle to face

and to help you to be strong

don't give up and don't give in

hold your head up high

look for help from One Above

or the angels up in the sky

watch for the silver lining

in whatever comes your way

there are blessings all around

when you continue to pray
